It's a type of embroidery called stumpwork - the top and bottom of the mushroom cap are two stitched pieces of felt, one with a wire for the flexible edge, that are stuffed with batting before being tacked down to the fabric. The stipe is a piece of rolled up felt that I stitched over (a little too tightly...oops!). The felt pieces on the bottom will hopefully give the moss knots a little extra dimension. Thank you for asking! I love getting nerdy on the nitty gritty.
Somehow, after reading this post, my heart is beating more slowly. The world seems to have quieted. What a wonderful, simple idea it is to just stop and make something not required. And your “moss mind” makes me think back to the pleasure of Elizabeth Gilbert’s novel “The signature of all things”. Among other things, it’s about a 19th century woman, botanist who travels the world and explores the ideas of evolution. You might enjoy it.
'Wood Wide Web' is good...'seamstress of the soil' is even better. Not to mention 'pale spangle of old defenses' (which I just mentioned). "'Moss mind' puts me in mind of 'Signature of All Things'.
I so love this, Kimberly. Of what material is the mushroom itself made? And oh my, that moss. Yes to moss mind.

Love this so much!! Also a synchronicity for me - I'm right in the midst of reading Finding the Mother Tree.

Thank you for your work in the world.
Love that connection and am so glad this offered a bit of slowness in a racing time. Thank you for reading!

Thank you so much, Bob - it means so much to know what sentiments land <3
Lovely! And thank you for the concept of moss mind. Marvelous!
Thanks so much, Jeanne! I could definitely use more time in "moss mind" myself...
a beautiful read and meditation
Thank you, MK - I appreciate your taking the time to give it a gander.
You are AMAZING!! It’s lovely to continuously learn from your child. You make my heart glow!
Aww - thanks, Mamma! Mine's glowing right back atcha.
I love knowing this. Isn't it wild how far we've gotten from things being treasured for the time and effort they take to create?
