So this post is very disruptive, thank you very much. I'm *retired* and I don't have time for this! It disrupts my day-- what, am I supposed to sit around and watch incredible stop-action videos of wool pizzas? Really? I have important stuff to do, two book reviews to write and other really important stuff too. I'm supposed to stop my action? Actually, okay okay -- these are all terrific. These aren't the time suck... everything else is. And the focused intentionality of creating these worlds, well, that is the epitome of human-ness while others are running around shooting each other. In fact, an argument can be made that these creations are the best we can do with our limited time, making and watching, because, well, Andromeda is heading our way.
Aw, happy to distract you from your responsibilities with lil felt frog joy any ol' time. Also, I need to stitch "Andromeda is heading our way" on a sampler.
Ohhhh yes, a beautiful brain bit from you, again! I recommend: Jan Svankmajer's work as well as Wladislaw Starewicz (spelling may be off). And Marcel the Shell if you haven't seen it. PEZ on youtube "Western Spaghetti" is also lovely and short.
Wonderful reflection, Kimberly. I think you might’ve introduced me to stop motion. I know I’ve seen some of the older movies, but I at least paid closer attention to it because of what you have shared on ig. In such an automated world, I am happy to know that such art is thriving -- three weeks for a minute of action! What beautiful craft. I want to live, more and more, in one of those tiny hand-sown cottages.
I predict you will dig "The Moon's Milk" by Ri Crawford (and narrated by Tom Waits!!!). I met Ri back when he was working at a zoo for my friend who was the Curator of Herpetology. Ri also made a cd of original songs back in those days incorporating frog and toad calls into the music. He called the cd "Casual Amplexus" which should immediately give you a clue about his sense of humor!
Um "The Moon's Milk" is FANTASTIC - I mean, I'd listen to Tom Waits read the phone book, but I just loved it. I'll listen for some accordion on the next full moon....

Ah-mazing. But have you prepared your body for Claymation Passover? Nothing says "animate me in clay" quite like the 10 plagues...

Yes yes!! Marcel was amazing - I've seen a couple of these but am gearing up for a stop motion deep dive. Thank you, Insley!
Simply wonderful - thank you! I did see the cooking one on insta a while back and it actually stopped me scrolling!! Have a great day!! c
Isn't it amazing? Right back at you, Cecilia.
I have loved stop motion since Gumby, but 'Cooking with Wool: Breakfast' is an entirely different level of goodness. Thanks for the introduction!
One of the best parts about stop motion is how incredibly timeless it is! Gumby's one of the greats!
Well, you've again opened up a whole new world to me. xo
Considering how many you've opened up to me, it's my pleasure!

Aw thanks so much, James! Yeah, I'm 100% ready for the shrink ray if it means I get to chill at that moth's house.

I can’t even with that frog! Loving this connection you’ve made between stop motion and slowing down to pay attention.
Isn't it just the *cutest*? The ones with the little frog couple? I literally can not.
My GOODNESS! Talk about instructive stop motion! That feels all to relevant in 2023. Thank you for sharing it with me, Betsy!
You are right on so many fronts <3
